Why we have a code
Every conversation we have carries a client's name and ours. This code sets out how everyone at BCC, in Kettering and Durban, is expected to behave. It applies to employees, managers, directors and anyone working on our behalf.
On the phone
- Be honest. Say who you are and who you are calling for. Never mislead, exaggerate or make promises the client cannot keep.
- No pressure. A "no" is respected, and so is any request not to be called again.
- Take extra care with anyone who may be vulnerable. If someone seems confused, unwell or unable to decide, end the sale politely.
- Follow our Call Compliance Statement on every campaign.
Respect at work
We treat everyone with dignity. Discrimination, harassment and bullying are not tolerated, whatever someone's age, disability, gender, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by UK or South African law.
Bribery and corruption
We never offer, pay, ask for or accept bribes, including small "facilitation" payments, directly or through anyone else. This covers the UK Bribery Act 2010 and South Africa's Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004. Gifts or hospitality worth more than £50/R1,000 must be approved by a director and recorded.
Conflicts of interest
Tell your manager if a personal interest, relationship or second job could affect, or appear to affect, your decisions at work.
Confidentiality and data
Client information and customer data are used only for the campaign they were given for. Never copy, share or take them away. See our Information Security Policy.
Fair competition
We compete on the quality of our work. We do not share pricing or other sensitive information with competitors, or use information obtained improperly.
Human rights and modern slavery
We respect the human rights of our people and everyone in our supply chain. See our Modern Slavery Statement.

Nobody will suffer for raising a genuine concern, in line with the UK Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 and South Africa's Protected Disclosures Act 26 of 2000.
Breaches
Breaking this code may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, and suppliers may lose their contract.
