Case Study: Customer Retention and Upgrade Campaign for a UK Mobile Network Provider

In March 2025, BCC Telemarketing partnered with a UK mobile network provider that wanted to strengthen customer retention and plan upgrade activity across its existing subscriber base.

The provider had a large number of customers whose contracts were approaching renewal. While many of these subscribers were satisfied with the service, a percentage would often begin comparing alternative providers as their contract end date approached. The company wanted to proactively engage with these customers before they considered switching networks.

The objective of the campaign was to contact existing customers ahead of contract expiry, discuss their current usage and offer suitable plan upgrades or renewal options.

Launching the Retention Programme

BCC began supporting the campaign in April 2025, contacting customers whose contracts were due to expire within the next three months.

Agents introduced themselves on behalf of the network provider and explained that the purpose of the call was to review the customer’s current plan and ensure it still suited their needs. Many subscribers had originally signed up several years earlier and were now using far more mobile data than their existing package allowed.

By reviewing usage with the customer, BCC agents were able to recommend updated plans that offered higher data allowances, improved value or additional services.

Identifying Upgrade Opportunities

During the conversations, agents discussed how customers were using their phones for activities such as streaming, remote working or mobile hotspot use. In many cases, this revealed that customers would benefit from switching to newer packages with larger data limits.

Where customers were interested in upgrading or renewing their contract, BCC either processed the renewal directly or transferred the customer to the provider’s retention team to finalise the new plan.

The proactive approach ensured customers felt supported rather than pressured, with many appreciating the opportunity to review their plan before their contract expired.

Strengthening Customer Loyalty

Over the course of the campaign, BCC spoke with thousands of existing subscribers, helping the mobile provider maintain stronger engagement with its customer base.

Customers who may otherwise have allowed their contracts to expire or begun exploring alternative providers were instead able to review new packages and continue their service without disruption.

Supporting Long-Term Subscriber Retention

By late 2025, the provider had a far more structured retention process in place. Customers approaching contract expiry were contacted early, their needs were reviewed and suitable renewal options were presented.

For mobile network providers, retaining existing customers is just as important as acquiring new ones. Through structured retention outreach and plan review conversations, BCC helped this provider ensure loyal subscribers remained connected while benefiting from updated mobile plans.
